Yum! Brands Sells Pizza Hut for $2.7 Billion in Landmark Strategic Shift

Yum! Brands is set to part ways with Pizza Hut in a transaction valued at $2.7 billion, bringing an end to nearly three decades of ownership of one of the world’s most recognized restaurant brands.

The deal follows a strategic review launched in late 2025 and reflects a growing trend among major corporations to streamline operations and focus resources on businesses with stronger long-term growth potential. Under the agreement, Pizza Hut’s international operations outside Mainland China will be acquired by LongRange Capital for approximately $1.5 billion, while Yum China will purchase Pizza Hut China for roughly $1.2 billion.

The transaction is expected to generate around $2.3 billion in net proceeds for Yum! Brands after taxes, fees, and other closing adjustments. Company leadership believes separate ownership structures will allow Pizza Hut’s regional businesses to operate with greater flexibility and focus.

Despite remaining one of the largest pizza chains globally, Pizza Hut has faced increasing competition from digital-first delivery platforms, changing consumer preferences, and an increasingly crowded restaurant landscape.

Yum! Brands plans to continue supporting Pizza Hut through its Byte by Yum! technology platform during the transition period. Both transactions are expected to close during the third quarter of 2026, pending regulatory approvals.

The sale also highlights a broader corporate trend in which established companies are refining their portfolios, prioritizing innovation, technology investments, and shareholder returns while seeking greater operational efficiency across their businesses.
